"Outset of noncommutative differential geometry"

We will briefly discuss possible meanings of the term "noncommutative geometry". This will include some reasons that one might want to study this subject, and whether doing so has any hope of success. Next we will introduce some definitions and starting results, to set the stage for the strand that is known as noncommutative differential geometry. We will address two lines of development, one coming from the direction known as quantum Riemannian geometry, and another approach, which relies on jet-endofunctors. Those results that belong to me, are also joint with K. Flood and M. Mantegazza.
