In a series of lectures I will analyze the classical notion of conditional probability. The first lecture will be devoted to an argument by H. Jeffreys, R. T. Cox and T. Jaynes among others. In this argument the usual rules for manipulating probabilities are derived from intuitivly reasonable properties of conditional probabilities.
